This is a stub page to preserve the older version of matlab_self_install. All these procedures changed as of 2020 with our upgrade to Full Suite. ===== old procedures - no longer applicable ===== === old Mac OS X === You can copy the pre-installed Matlab for MacOS application from our software library over the network; a wired connection is highly recommended. You can also come by our ECEHELP offices to copy the App folder via removeable media. To copy via the network, connect to the ECE VPN, then in the Finder's Go menu, choose "Connect to Server" and enter this server URI: __smb://eceuser@samba.ece.utoronto.ca/software/matlab__ with password 'eceuser' Look in the folder for the most recent posted Matlab release number to find a Matlab application icon (folder). Drag-copy this to Applications, to Desktop, or to your choice of location with enough free space. The application folder is quite large: Matlab R2014b takes up over 9 GB. Copying may require a long time. Once the application is done copying, simply double-click your copy to launch the application. === Old Linux procedures === Locate the ISO file for the most recent Linux release. You can mount the ISO as a virtual DVD-ROM volume. Within the virtual DVD, run the install script, and respond to the prompts using the file installation key and other settings which ECEHELP will provide (email ecehelp at ece.utoronto.ca for details.) === old Windows procedures === Open System Properties (mouse over "This PC" or "Computer" -> right click -> choose 'properties') and note the version and bit-count of your O/S. If you have 32-bit windows you must install the 32-bit edition of Matlab. For Windows 64 you should install 64-bit Matlab. Windows 10 requires Matlab R2015a or newer. Mathworks is ceasing development of 32-bit Matlab for Windows after R2015b - see [[http://www.mathworks.com/support/sysreq/roadmap.html|Platform Roadmap]] Users of 32-bit Windows are encouraged to migrate to a 64-bit edition. Installer ISOs for older releases are also posted. Many posted older releases do not have customised auto-install scripts; to install older / 32-bit / non-customized releases, contact ECEHELP for exact setup steps. === old Windows steps for Matlab self-install === Here are the steps to install Matlab on a computer you administer, via the ECE wired ethernet network (Don't try this over wireless! If you aren't on our wired network, bring a portable drive with >= 9 GB free space to our ECEHELP office to copy the ISO). If installing on a laptop, we advise connecting the power cable so the battery won't run out during the install, which can take quite a while - 20 minutes or longer. Log in as a user with admin rights (to avoid multiple prompts for admin during the install) Make sure there are at least 9 GB free on drive C: in "Computer", click "map network drive" and enter these settings: * server: \\samba.ece.utoronto.ca\software * user: eceuser * pw: eceuser On the software volume, open the Matlab folder, then then latest Matlab folder (currently Matlab2017b). Within that you'll find a large ISO file named ECE_Matlab_201Xa.ISO. You can use the ISO directly from this Samba server (if needed, you could also copy the ISO to your own disk to run later/elsewhere.) Right click on the ISO image file - if you can "mount" the ISO image, do so. If you don't have this option, go to this URL to download and install the free Virtual Clone Drive tool (last link in the list of programs): https://www.elby.ch/en/download.html Once VCD is installed, go back and right-click on the ISO and you should now be able to "mount" the image as a virtual DVD. When mounted, the virtual DVD should prompt to ask permission to auto-run the installation script - click OK to this. (If not prompted, open the virtual drive and run "do_Matlab_install.bat") The setup script runs the Matlab installer twice (for two sets of features). Follow the instructions shown in the command prompt window. When prompted for user access control, click OK to give permission for the installer both times. The installer will display several windows, but don't click or type anything in these - it fills in the needed info automatically. You only need to click OK (and enter the admin password if required) for User Account Control prompts. Once the install is done, in Windows Explorer open "Computer" or "This PC"; right click on the virtual DVD, and choose "eject." (If using the ISO from a USB key, you can then eject the USB.)
